Darkest hellos, my sweet friend!
I’m Catrín, the Sugar Skull Cat.
On the Day of the Dead, I roam the Marigold fields and cross the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead. I love the sweet smell of Copal incense and the faint bouquet of Cempasúchil flowers that gently lead the way home.
Each year I guide the souls of all the cats that crossed over Rainbow Bridge back to their loving homes and reunite them with their families to celebrate their return and enjoy a delicious meal of tuna and fresh milk.
I’m mischievous but have a heart of gold. Will you be my friend?
Catrín is a lovingly handmade 14" collectible doll made from cotton fabric. His skull, ribs, and hips are made from felt. Hand-embroidered details decorate his face.
Some handmade details and colors may vary slightly.
Although Catrín enjoys playing with children, he’s not suitable for kids under 3 years of age.
Did you know that skulls decorated the tzompantli altars of Mesoamerican cultures? They were a symbol of the conclusion of a stage of life that extended to another plane.
After the Spanish conquest, the rituals honoring Death and the Dead were banned and eventually substituted by new ones. Combining Middle Eastern and Spanish techniques brought over to the New World, the Sugar Skull was born.
Every year in November, the sugary skulls now decorate altars all over Mexico, honoring the dead.
Catrín, the Sugar Skull Cat Doll, honors and celebrates Mexico’s Day of the Dead.
